1) Charlie Kirk assassinated: Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University when a gunman shot him in the neck from the roof of a nearby building. The single shot caused chaos among the large crowd, and Kirk later died in the hospital despite emergency surgery. A 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt, and early reports indicate the attack may have been politically motivated.

2) The Summer I IPO’d: The IPO market has been on a tear, most recently led by Gemini Space Station - a crypto exchange founded by the Winklevoss twins (of Facebook OG fame) - which raised $425 million in its Nasdaq debut. Ticket reseller StubHub also drew intense investor demand, with its IPO reportedly 20 times oversubscribed - holy. The surge in IPO activity signals renewed investor appetite for tech and consumer platform stocks after a long slump in recent months. People are hyped on stocks again.

3) Crude Awakening: President Trump urged all NATO countries to stop importing Russian oil and called for coordinated sanctions, saying that ending these purchases would significantly undercut Russia’s ability to fund the war in Ukraine. He also proposed levying steep tariffs (50-100%) on China for continuing to buy Russian oil and emphasized that sanctions would only be meaningful if done by the entire alliance. Feels like some big moves brewing here.

1) An Indiana lawyer named Mark Zuckerberg is suing Meta, making it essentially Mark Zuckerberg vs. Mark Zuckerberg, after the company repeatedly suspended his Facebook accounts for allegedly impersonating the CEO. I hope Mark Zuckerberg wins because Mark Zuckerberg is so annoying.

2) An artist and mycologist (mushroom expert) named Sam Shoemaker paddled 26 miles across open water in a kayak made entirely from mushrooms. Not my preferred way to be on mushrooms but good for him.

3) A woman was scammed by someone pretending to be an astronaut, who tricked her into believing he was in space, under attack, and in urgent need of oxygen - all part of a romance fraud scheme. Honestly, if you believe that, you deserve to get scammed.

The U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates this week for the first time in months.
