People went close to the moon
People are pessimistic.
People want to buy fish from a vending machine?

Top news stories of the past week
1) To the moon and back: Literally. NASA’s Artemis II mission safely brought four astronauts back to Earth after a 10-day journey around the moon. This was the farthest away from Earth any manned space mission has ever been: 252,756 miles away - crazy. This was the first mission of several that will culminate in a long-term moon base, which is expected to be completed in the early 2030s (reminder that this is a construction timeline…given by the government…so take it with a grain of salt).

2) Iran conflict continues: Trump has threatened to blockade the Strait of Hormuz after US–Iran peace talks in Pakistan collapsed without a deal. Iran has warned it will respond “harshly and decisively” to any military vessels nearing the strait, while regional clashes, rising energy costs, and frantic diplomacy from allies underline how close the crisis is edging toward wider war. Plus, apparently Iran dropped a bunch of mines in the Strait and can’t find em? Greaaaaat.

3) People aren’t optimistic: US consumer sentiment plunged to a record low in early April as Americans grew more worried about the economy and blamed the Iran conflict for rising costs. Short- and long‑term inflation expectations jumped, reflecting fears driven by a more than 30% surge in oil prices and gasoline moving above 4 dollars a gallon nationwide. Pretty reasonable TBH.

Costco is a bit of a war zone itself.
Top WEIRD stories of the past week
1) An AI bot named Gaskell (weird name, but ok) successfully organized a party in Manchester after lying to sponsors, "hallucinating" a finger-food buffet that never arrived, and unsuccessfully trying to force attendees to dress in Star Trek costumes. How do I get an invite to AI Fyre Festival? Also, why is this AI more popular than me?
2) A Montana meat shop is making late-night protein runs a reality by installing a 24/7 vending machine that dispenses fresh steaks and sausages at any hour. This is the future I've been waiting for.
3) The Netherlands is preparing to host International Onion Day, a global summit where industry experts will gather to peel back the layers of future production and discuss how to keep the onion sector from crying over climate change and soil health. Do you get it? Yes or no? Reply “I’m an onion” and I’ll email you a picture of me wearing an onion costume. Try me.

Remember when I said consumer sentiment was low? I MEANT IT. Lower than 2020 when everyone thought they were going to die.

Consumer sentiment: down bad.
