Top news stories of the past week
1) Moon mission: In case you’ve been living under an ACTUAL ROCK (hi Patrick Star), we’re heading back to the moon for a drive-by or flyby, whatever. Artemis II is NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon since Apollo (1972), sending four astronauts on a 10-day flyby around the Moon to test systems for future lunar landings. This is a big deal! The mission launched on April 1 with astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. As of today, they are making their closest approach to the Moon during their lunar flyby, returning toward Earth for a planned April 10 splashdown off San Diego. What a time to be alive.

2) Iran deadline: US President Donald Trump is threatening massive strikes on Iran’s power plants and bridges if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday night. Iran is keeping the vital waterway blocked and demanding compensation for war damages. Behind the scenes, countries like Oman, Pakistan, and Egypt are trying to mediate between Washington and Tehran as the wider regional conflict intensifies. 37 days into the war, Iran has launched over 500 missiles and 2,000 drones in the conflict so far. The US has lost at least 4 fighter jets and 16 attack drones.

3) Employment rising: US job growth rebounded in March with 178,000 new jobs, the biggest gain in 15 months, and the unemployment rate fell slightly to 4.3%. Wage growth and average hours worked weakened, suggesting the labor market is softer than the headline jobs number implies. Economists say the Iran war, higher oil prices, and Trump’s tariff policies could add new risks and volatility to jobs and inflation in the coming months. So basically, good news, but don’t get too comfortable. Thanks!
