Musk is down bad
The world's richest person may also be the world's most hated person right now
Are you prepared for April Fools tomorrow? There are only two options: be the fooler or be the fooled.
Nobody REALLY knows when or where it started:
Some think the origins of April Fools can be traced back to the Ancient Roman Festival of Hilaria, which involved jokes and games (sounds awesome)
Others think it’s from it originated in 16th-century France when the Julian calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calendar, moving New Year’s Day from April 1 to January 1. Those that continued celebrating on April 1 were mocked as “April Fools” - rude!
Is that real history or just a meta April Fools joke? I legitimately do not know.

World news
Top news stories of the past week
1) 2025 is not the year of Musk: On top of losing over $100 billion so far this year, Musk is now being protested against around the world. Why? Musk’s extreme influence over government initiatives, particularly related to the Department of Government Efficiency, has people concerned that he is a threat to democracy. Protests are taking place at Tesla showrooms worldwide, hoping to deter people from buying Musk’s cars and further impacting his wealth.
2) Massive earthquake hits: A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand, killing more than 1,700 people and injuring thousands. Rescue efforts are ongoing but face challenges from damaged roads, unreliable communication and Myanmar’s ongoing civil unrest. Some of the videos are insane:
3) Measles runs wild: The ongoing measles outbreak in the US has now spread across Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma, with 483 confirmed cases. Measles is highly contagious, with symptoms that initially look like a cold but can grow to pneumonia, hearing loss, and other complications. It is preventable with vaccination, and areas with outbreaks have been tied to low vaccination rates. This isn’t great, but the historical context on measles is worth reviewing:
Top WEIRD stories of the past week
1) Someone set a record for doing the most pull-ups underwater while holding their breath. I give this record a 3/10 (a bit less dumb than the usual records we cover).
2) In what can really be described as a scene from the movie Madagascar, racoons have been helping escaped otters by triggering traps meant to catch them. Run free my brothers.
3) A British man known for thinking he was hilarious was buried in a custom Snickers bar-shaped coffin with the phrase “I’m Nuts” emblazoned on it. Surprised this wasn’t a guy from Florida tbh.

Technology
On the edge - Multimodal AI
Artificial Intelligence seems to be evolving faster than any of us can keep up, and it’s about to get even crazier with multimodal AI.
Multimodal AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can understand and combine different kinds of information, such as text, images, and sounds.

Today, it is used in apps that create captions for images, translate spoken words into text, and help virtual assistants understand questions and commands. This makes technology more flexible, allowing it to work with the many ways people communicate and share information.
In the future, multimodal AI could help doctors make faster and more accurate diagnoses by reviewing medical images and patient notes at the same time. It could also power smarter robots that can see, hear, and react to their surroundings in more lifelike ways.

Multimodal AI is important because it helps computers learn and think more like humans do, which can lead to better tools and solutions for everyday problems.

Remember the movie “The Big Short”? It was about the housing collapse and Great Recession of the late 2000s. Well one of the main characters of that movie, Dr. Michael Burry, was following mortgage delinquency rates, or how behind people are on paying their mortgages in the US. Today, the numbers are even worse than back then:

What are we investing in?
Cybersecurity
As technology becomes more engrained in our lives every day, there is an ever-increasing threat that our information will be stolen, systems will be hacked, and fraud will be committed. Because of that, cybersecurity is becoming more important every day.
Cybersecurity is about keeping computers, networks, and data safe from people who might try to hack into them or steal information. Cybersecurity uses tools like firewalls and encryption to protect important data and keep systems running smoothly.
Investing in cybersecurity is a good idea because more and more money is being spent on it worldwide. In 2025, it's expected that over $200 billion will be spent on cybersecurity - that’s more than a 15% increase from 2024!
Companies and governments need to protect themselves from cyber threats, and there are more rules to follow about keeping data safe.
This is what is known as a structurally-growing trend - a great thing to invest in.
So how can you?

…in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was completed. Originally painted red with anti-rust paint, it was 1,024 and opened for the World Exhibition that Spring. Would recommend cracking a bottle of wine on the lawn in front for the nightly light show.
