Week ending October 27th

With Halloween fast approaching, I have three facts and a question:

  1. Halloween traces back over 2,000 years to the Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated on October 31.

  2. Halloween became widely celebrated in the United States in the late 19th century due to the influx of Irish immigrants fleeing the potato famine.

  3. Trick-or-treating dates back to medieval Europe, where people would go door-to-door begging for food in exchange for prayers for the dead (odd).

My question is…

World news

Top news stories of the past week

1) Japan in political chaos: Most people usually associate Japan with delicious food and cities that inspired Blade Runner. But with the ruling party losing the election for the first time in decades, it’s now in political and economic chaos.

Not pleased.

2) Tesla went off: In a good way! After stronger-than-expected quarterly results and positive guidance, the auto manufacturer rallied 26% and Elon Musk added $34B to his net worth. Wa wa wee wa.

3) Nvidia is the top dog (again): Nvidia beat out Apple to once again become the world’s most valuable company. Its value of over $3.5 trillion is greater than the GDP of France.

Top WEIRD stories of the past week

1) The Colorado Supreme Court is considering whether five elephants at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo should have legal personhood, potentially allowing them to sue for their freedom. Cross-species woke is next level.

2) Timothée Chalamet crashed a Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest in NYC because he’s the Lisan Al Gaib aka a man of the people.

3) A crypto meme coin built and launched by an AI chatbot called Terminal of Truths grew to more than $800M in value in less than two weeks.

Investment idea

What are we investing in?

Farmland

I haven’t lost my mind, I swear.

Investing in farmland can be a smart choice if you’re looking for a safe and steady way to grow your money. Farmland is valuable because people will always need food, so there is a consistent demand for the crops grown on it.

Owning farmland means you can make money by leasing it to farmers or selling the crops, creating a reliable source of income. Also, farmland values tend to go up over time and often do well during inflation because food prices usually rise along with other prices.

Now might be a great time to invest in farmland because there are some big changes happening. As cities grow and take over land, there’s less space left for farming, which can make farmland more valuable. At the same time, big investment companies are buying more farmland because they see it as a safe place to put money.

You see green I see green (cash)

Plus, with a greater focus on environmentally friendly farming, land used for sustainable farming practices could be worth even more as people look for healthy and eco-friendly food options.

So how can you invest in farmland? Surprisingly, there’s a few ways:

  1. Farmland REITs, like Gladstone LAND

  2. Agricultural stocks, like Archer-Daniels-Midland

  3. Or buy direct with companies like AcreTrader

Happy (yield) farming!
