You know that song by Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B where they talk about the difficulties of home ownership? It’s the one that goes:

“There’s some chores in this house. There’s some chores in this house” Repeating.

Chores aren’t the only problem with buying a home. The other problems are (unsurprisingly) the amount of money it costs and the complex process of buying it.

The average first-time homebuyer in the U.S. now takes 7 years to save for their down payment. Even more concerning, 83% underestimate their total upfront costs by at least $15,000.

Many people get blindsided by things like:

  • Closing costs (typically 2–5% of the purchase price)

  • Inspection fees, appraisals, legal fees

  • Immediate repairs (the water heater never lasts until year 2)

  • Moving costs and furniture

  • Ongoing property taxes and insurance

It all adds up fast, and if you’re not prepared, it can turn the dream of homeownership into financial stress.

Goals.

But here’s the thing: homeownership is still one of the most powerful wealth-building moves you can make. The median U.S. homeowner has 40x the net worth of the median renter.

Is that correlation or causation? Beats me.

HOWEVER, I built something to make planning for your first home purchase WAY easier.
