The AI CEO
AI isn't just replacing junior jobs, it's coming to replace your boss's boss's job.
An AI leader said AI is going to push unemployment to Great Depression levels. Tariffs are back on, after being off, after being on, after being off, after being on. PBS sues Trump (naturally).
Plus - don’t name your kid Bulbasaur in Japan.

World news
Top news stories of the past week
1) AI will spike unemployment: The CEO of one of the world’s largest AI companies, Anthropic, said that AI is going to spike unemployment to 20% over the next 5 years. He expects 50% of white-collar entry-level jobs to be replaced, even saying that HIS job is under threat. Sooo what do we do?

CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei
2) Tariffs on then off then on: A day after the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that President Trump overstepped his authority in imposing sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs, the U.S. Court of Appeals temporarily overruled, so the tariffs remain in force for now. Ahhhh the classic “snip-snap”. Until the appeal is resolved, importers must still pay the contested duties, leaving businesses and global trading partners in limbo/purgatory over the long-term status of Trump’s tariff strategy.

3) PBS vs Trump: PBS filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his administration to block an executive order that would eliminate all federal funding for the public broadcaster. PBS argues that Trump’s order is unconstitutional and amounts to retaliation for what he perceives as unfavorable news coverage. This occurred three days after NPR did the same for its radio network. Great time to be a lawyer.

Top WEIRD stories of the past week
1) Madame Tussauds London unveiled a wax sculpture of a Greggs Sausage Roll. I wonder which one tastes better? Also, why?
2) Japan is cracking down on “flashy” baby names, including including “Pikachu” and “Pudding”, in a new naming reform law. There goes my plan to move to Japan and start a family.
3) Two stowaway pigeons caused chaos when found in the passenger cabin on a Delta plane. Their boarding passes were a pile of twigs.

Have you felt that your morning coffee keeps creeping up in price? Well, it is. Coffee prices have shot up with bad weather in Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Should I start drinking Four Loko in the morning instead? Ok fine, if you insist.
