Top news stories of the past week
1) Longest win streak in 20 years: US stocks surged on Friday, with the S&P 500 achieving its longest winning streak since 2004, helped by positive jobs data and signs that both the US and China are open to trade negotiations. The nine-day win streak was led by major tech companies like Meta and Microsoft.

“Look at those stonks go!”
2) But actually, stocks aren’t doing so hot: The US stock market has suffered its worst first 100 days of any presidential term since 1974, with the S&P 500 down over 7% and $3.66 trillion in market value lost since President Trump’s second inauguration. This decline is driven by historic volatility and uncertainty caused by new tariffs and unpredictable trade policies, despite brief rallies.

3) Warren waves goodbye: Warren Buffett, the legendary investor known as the "Oracle of Omaha," announced at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting that he will retire as CEO at the end of 2025, handing leadership to his longtime deputy, Greg Abel. Buffett, who transformed Berkshire from a struggling textile company into a global investment powerhouse, is without question one of the greatest investors of all time.

2) A student had to be rescued by emergency services twice within four days while attempting to climb Japan’s Mount Fuji. They got rescued the first time, realized they left their cellphone, went back to find it, had to get rescued again - seriously.
3) Ronan, a sea lion at a California marine lab, has become an internet sensation for bobbing her head in perfect rhythm to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland.” Does she have better rhythm than me? Definitely yes.
