Winning monopoly isn't worth it
The price is too high! Emotional, legal, mostly emotional.
For someone who has made at least part of his career saying “You’re fired”, Trump is finding that more difficult these days with on particular person…
Also, Google is breaking the law and healthcare isn’t as stable as we thought.
PLUS - two very different kinds of races in today’s weird news.

World news
Top news stories of the past week
1) Figuring out how to say “You’re fired”: Trump is looking for ways to fire the Chair of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell. Why? Because Trump wants him to turn on the money printer and cut rates! Why? Because that’ll drive economic growth while Trump’s tariffs stall it out. Legally, Trump can’t fire Powell without proof of misconduct (probably). If Trump does find a way, the only thing guaranteed is extreme market volatility.

2) Google won monopoly, and that’s bad: A US judge has ruled that Google has an illegal monopoly in online advertising technology, marking the second antitrust case Google has lost in a year. Google plans to appeal the decision, but even if they win that, there’s no doubt they’ll work to change their advertising policies. After all, who wants to be in court constantly aside from the lawyers collecting fees?

3) The worst drop in a quarter century: Most US stocks were up Thursday, but UnitedHealth very much was not, dropping 22.4%. This was their worst one-day drop since 1998. The causes were a weaker-than-expected profit report and slashed financial forecasts. This was their first earnings miss since 2008 - a big deal!

Top WEIRD stories of the past week
1) The first robot half-marathon race just took place, and guess what? They kind of sucked!
2) Do you say “please” and “thank you” to ChatGPT so the robots will remember how polite you were when they take over the world? Turns out that costs millions in computing power.
3) And now for a very different kind of race. A group of California millionaires launched a startup to race sperm. Yes there will be a leaderboard. Yes there will be instant replays. ANY QUESTIONS????

On this day…
…in 753 BC (according to legend) Rome was founded by Romulus and his twin brother Remus. To celebrate, watch Gladiator 2! It’s just like Gladiator 1 in almost every way except not as good.
